Councilmember Blumenfield led the City Council to an unanimous vote to ban tools instrumental to the running of rodeos that have long been a source of animal cruelty. Blumenfield worked with the City Attorney to designate electric prods, shocking devices, flank or bucking straps, wire tiedowns, sharpened or fixed spurs, and rowels. Similar restrictions against common rodeo implements such as electric prods are already in place in some Cities in California, including Pasadena, Irvine and Napa County, with bans also in force in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Fort Wayne, Indiana; St. Petersburg, Florida; Southampton, New York.
